Rules & Scoring
Playing Rules
- Not the standard alternate shot, this version allows each player to hit a full amount of shots instead of every other shot
- In general, players alternate shots on two separate golf balls with their playing partner
- Each player hits a tee shot on every hole
- After the tee shot, each golfer plays the second shot from their playing partners ball, thus alternating shots on each ball
- The alternating of shots continues until each ball is in the hole
- Can be played as stroke play or match play
Scoring
- Alternate Shot can be played using any game scoring method, for example: Better Ball, Aggregate Team Score or Stableford. Refer to each game’s scoring details for playing instructions.
Match Setup
- Number of Teams: 2
- Players per Team: 2 from the same team
Modified Alternate Shot (1 Ball)
- Standard alternate shot, this version reduces the number of shots each player hits by playing every other shot on just one ball
- In general, only one golf ball is played between the two players on the same team and they alternate shots
- Each team has one player hit a tee shot on every hole, alternating each hole
- The second player on the team then hits the second shot
- The first player then hits the third shot, and the alternating of shots continues until the ball is in the hole
- Regardless of which golfer finished the hole, tee shots alternate each hole so both players hit nine tee shots
- Can be played as stroke play or match play
