Scramble

The ultimate low pressure, fun for everybody game, a Scramble allows you to choose the best shot from your team on every shot. Great format for the second round of a day or a round full of drinks and good times.

Rules & Scoring

Playing Rules

  • Each player hits a tee shot on every hole, and the team selects the best tee shot
  • Each player from the team plays the next shot from where the selected best shot came to rest
  • This continues until the ball is holed out by one player on the team
  • For shots not on the green, the ball may be placed within one club length of where the original shot came to rest, no closer to the hole
  • For shots on the green, the ball may be placed within one scorecard length of where the original shot came to rest, no closer to the hole
  • The “cut” of grass or surface the best selected shot came to rest on may not be changed or improved for the subsequent shot (ex: bunker, rough, woods)
  • Optional twist: require a minimum number of tee shots to be used from each member of the team
  • Can be played as stroke play or match play

Handicap Application

We recommend, where possible and equitable, to not use handicaps in a Scramble

If handicaps are used:

  • Team Handicap is calculated as the sum up each golfer’s handicap divided by the team size
  • Calculate the difference between the two team’s handicaps
  • Handicap strokes are awarded to the higher handicap team and equal to the difference in team handicaps
